Birkbeck’s blogs are written by members of the College community and guests. This includes our students, alumni, staff and people who we invite to blog on our platforms. The blogs are the personal opinions of the respective authors and do not reflect the opinions of the College.

Rule 1: We welcome your opinions

We welcome your opinions. Birkbeck is committed to free, robust and uninhibited debate among members of the College Community in accordance with our Free Speech Policy. We have promoted ‘the universal benefits of the blessings of knowledge’ since our inception in 1823. We want people to read, see, understand and contribute different points of view. We moderate comments posted to our blogs to help ensure that they do not break these rules before we publish them.

Rule 2: You are posting in a public forum

Once your comment is online, anyone with Internet access can read it. You can express strong opinions but don’t forget that you are legally responsible for content that you submit. You should consider how your comment could be received by others and ensure that it:

  • does not breach our policy on dignity at work and study
  • is not unlawful, abusive, defamatory, false or misleading, threatening, harmful, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, homophobic, racist, sexist, or discriminatory against any religious or other group
  • does not incite people to commit a crime
  • is not posted multiple times in one forum – please do not SPAM
  • does not advertise products or services
  • does not include personal contact details or information about you or someone else.

Rule 3: Language and relevance

Please be polite and ensure that your submission is relevant to the topic. Please do not insult other contributions.

Rule 4: Report abuse

If you are concerned that a comment breaches these rules, please report it to us via communications@bbk.ac.uk

Rule 5: Impersonation and proper disclosure

When you submit a comment, you should not pretend to be someone else.

Rule 6: Removal of content

We reserve the right not to publish or to delete comments that violate the letter or spirit of these rules.
